On the red Carpet

The major awards are presented at a live televised ceremony, most commonly in February or March following the relevant calendar year, and six weeks after the announcement of the nominees. It is the culmination of the film awards season, which usually begins during November or December of the previous year. This is an elaborate extravaganza, with the invited guests walking up the red carpet in the creations of the most prominent fashion designers of the day. Black tie dress is the most common outfit for men, although fashion may dictate not wearing a bow-tie, and musical performers sometimes do not adhere to this. (The artists who recorded the nominees for Best Original Song quite often perform those songs live at the awards ceremony, and the fact that they are performing is often used to promote the television broadcast.)

All the prominent personalities of Hollywood as well as the outside world are invited to witness the grand event of 'Oscars'. The Academy makes sure that there is no compromise as far as the welcome of the honored guests is concerned. The Red Carpet has a long and significant association with the Academy Awards ceremony. It is considered to be the most sophisticated way to welcome the celebrities at the formal event of Oscar Award. The Red Carpet is rolled out to give a touch of special treatment to the welcome of the guests invited for the award function.

The entire concert of Red Carpet has been adopted from the literature. Its source is considered to be the play 'Agamemnon', written by Aeschylus in 458 BC. In the play, it is mentioned by the writer that when Agamemnon (title character) returns from Troy, he is acknowledged by his resentful wife Clytemnestra in a unique way. She rolls out a red carpet and offers him a red path to walk upon, as a mark of honor. With time, the notion of hospitality came to be attached to the Red Carpet. Today, it has become pertinent as a special effort made to feel the guests welcome.

The Red Carpet gained more popularity after its association with the Academy Awards. However, this concept of luxurious hospitality was applied for the first time as far back as the year 1902. At that time, the New York Central Railroad used luxurious, crimson carpets to direct people as they boarded the 20th Century Limited passenger train. This is supposed to be the first use of the "Red Carpet Treatment" as a part of a welcome ceremony. In the recent times, United Airlines maneuvers a chain of VIP Lounges at major airports, known as "Red Carpet Clubs".

Academy Award nominee Amy Adams was a vision on the Oscars red carpet. She stood apart from the rest of the crowd, wearing a glittering blue L'Wren Scott cap-sleeved gown. But what really set Adams apart was the jewelry she wore, worth a cool $1.35 million.

PEOPLE is reporting that 'The Fighter' actress wore a Cartier platinum and diamond Haute Joaillerie secret watch bracelet, which featured a 30.75-carat carved emerald and 575 diamonds. The bracelet is worth $1.025 million.

Adams also wore a pair of platinum and diamond 2-carat stud earrings, worth $35,000 and a Cartier platinum and diamond necklace with carved 33.24-carat emerald, worth $290,000.

Unfortunately, Adams lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to co-star Melissa Leo, who let an F-bomb fly during her acceptance speech.

"I'm just shaking in my boots here," Leo said. "Yeah, I am kind of speechless. When I watched Kate [Winslet] two years ago, it looked so much f**king easier."

Backstage, Leo was quick to apologize for her obscenity. "I had no idea. This word ... I apologize to anyone that they offended. There's a great deal of the English language that is in my vernacular. I really don't mean to offend, and it's probably a very inappropriate place to use that particular word."
